Her name was Nelly. She was 8 years old when she and her mom went into hiding. The only way to survive was to hide! Why hide? Their crime was that they were different! Sounds familiar? Without the embrace of her Mom’s unshakable love and the humanitarian deed of a Catholic Polish family - she would have never made it. I would have never had the privilege to know her and to be gifted of her story. Let’s not forget our children. They are OUR future. Happy Birthday Nelly - wherever you are you are remembered and celebrated. Miss your calls. 🌈❤️😇

The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, AJC - American Jewish Committee-Los Angeles, and Japanese American Cultural & Community Center - JACCC will co-sponsor a virtual program supported by Japan House Los Angeles, commemorating July 29, 2021 as , designated by the California Legislature. The program will be streamed on July 29, 2021 at 5pm PDT, and will thereafter be available on-demand. Meet Mr. and Mrs. Sugihara two heroes who remain largely invisible in history books. During WWII Mr. Sugihara served as a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania. He and his wife worked 18 hour days to hand write unlawful travel visas which allowed over 6,000 Jews to escape the Holocaust. On the day the consulate was forcibly closed and he and his wife had to evacuate they were still handwriting travel visas and throwing them from the train. When asked why he did it he said: “I told the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it was a matter of humanity. I did not care if I lost my job. Anyone else would have done the same thing if they were in my place.” Stories like this bring us back to our humanity and to be honest it gives me hope. Repost from
