Part 1: Finding out it’s twins - Sharing this for anyone in a similar situation. Know that it’s ok not to be ok, and that you will be ok!
We decided to try for one more baby to give our daughter a sibling and complete our family. Twins run on both sides of our families, but we never really expected it to happen to us.
Because of my medical history, I was seen quite early and had my first scan sooner than most.
At that appointment, I was told the pregnancy might not be viable and that I should return in two weeks for another scan.
Those two weeks were incredibly difficult. I spent them believing I was losing the baby. Eventually I began to make peace with the idea that maybe it just wasn’t meant to be this time.
When I returned for the follow-up scan, I expected them to confirm exactly that.
Instead, the doctor looked at the screen and said:
“Everything actually looks good…and you’re having twins.”
I remember smiling in disbelief and saying, “Wow… that’s so cool. We did that ourselves?” 😂
My husband’s reaction was a little more practical…immediately thinking about bigger cars, bigger houses and much bigger expenses.
But once the excitement settled, the reality hit me.
Our daughter would only be two when the twins arrived. She still felt like such a baby to us. The thought of suddenly having three children under three, and not being there for my toddler enough felt overwhelming.
I cried a lot.
I felt guilty for not feeling instantly happy, but the truth is I was scared.
Over time though, something slowly changed.
I started bonding with the two little babies growing inside me.
And I realised something important.
Love doesn’t divide when you have more children.
It multiplies.
