Thirteen years ago this week, Lauren Mackler and I installed "Treating Shadows As Real Things" at the Church of the Holy Shroud in Turin during Artissima. Invited by the brilliant Francesca Bertolotti and aided by the wonderfully supportive Artissima director Sarah Cosulich, we put together a mirrored beauty of illusion and metaphysical longing. 

Exhibitions are ephemeral, but they are worth peering back into those looking glasses again from time to time.

with Lucas Blalock, Sarah Cain, Giorgio de Chirico, Samara Golden, Mark Hagen, Anthony Lepore, Andrea Longacre-White, Carlo Mollino and Ry Rocklen.

"We like the kind of illusionism that the viewer understands, but still chooses to participate in, the sublime epiphany and the special effect, the multistable perception and the impossible object. Pascal’s wager.

Besides, we come from Los Angeles. Here, where the permeability between fiction and fact is pungent, if curiously mundane, we’re always trawling the space between the real and the imagined.

The Many Blessed Faces of her Majesty Saint Leigh Bowery

Shockingly fresh and freshly shocking, three decades after Bowery's tragic death of AIDS, the life and legacy of this messy icon remains frantic, fu**ed, and utterly beautiful. From the innumerable haute fe**sh outfits, collaborations with Michael Clark, The Fall, and Charles Atlas (amongst many others, most especially Nicola Rainbird), this retrospective of the magic and influence of Bowery, definitely inspired me but also summoned a few of my own haunted, underground hangovers, amidst all the q***r costume f**kery of my misspent youth getting high and slutting out in make-up and dresses, I feel terribly grateful to have survived

But truly all hail Leigh

For those who don't know, I've been chronically sick for over a decade and severely for the last 3-4 years.

Miraculously, these past months, I found some medicine that works. And now I'm joyously, deliciously alive again

Myriam Ben Saleh took this picture of me crossing the Rhine in Basel, Switzerland these days, and somehow it captures just a little of how happy I am not being bedridden with pain.

And while I'll never be "healed," I am better than I've felt in years and years

Will report on art etc soon, but not being so sick anymore, in real way and only relatively recently, somehow felt like pressing news to share 

Apologies for everyone I flaked on these years, being sick is awful and destructive. Gratitude for all who put up with me in the maelstrom. 

And a burst of flowers from my bruised heart to all at the sheer joy of being alive
