This weekend we're in South Bend, Indiana celebrating Mexico's beauty and culture with Maestro Alastair Willis and the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. The two-concert series features a Saturday evening masterworks, "Viva la Música and Berlioz Fantastique," and a free community concert on Sunday going all-out for Día de los Mu***os.

The two visual pieces on the program, "Pre~Columbia" and "Mágico," explore ancient and modern Mexico. They originated from a yearlong photographic production across 18 Mexican states. Toe-tapping music by Revueltas, Copland and Moncayo create the emotional landscape for the syncronized imagery on the first half and Berlioz's masterpiece, "Symphonie fantastique," continues the passion through the concert's close.

On Sunday additional surprises await. Ballet Folklórico Guadalupano will light up the stage with their festive traditional dancing, and Chicago’s beloved Sones de Mexico Ensemble are set to deliver the musical fuego.

Catch both shows on the big screen alongside the vibrant energy of the SBSO at the beautiful Morris Performing Arts Center in downtown South Bend—7:30pm on Saturday 11/1 and 3pm on Sunday 11/2.

Also on this celebratory program are Khatchaturian's "Suite from Spartacus," Respighi's "Pines of Rome," and Lalo's "Cello Concerto," featuring 2024 Youth Concerto Competition Winner, Neel Krishnan.

What a concert series! Still buzzing from the wonderful, nearly sold-out shows with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra celebrating the bicentennial of the city!

For the occasion the TSO commissioned Nicholas to put together a new locally sourced visual concerto, "200 Years of Tallahassee." About 350 historic and present-day images were selected from a pool of about 10,000—and choreographed to a toe-tapping orchestral suite by jazz legend Duke Ellington, "Black, Brown and Beige."

Also on the program at Ruby Diamond Hall on the FSU campus were works by Aaron Copland, Jennifer Higdon and William Grant Still. It was such a treat to be part of a special, once-in-a-lifetime concert event like this!!

After a fantastic concert last night with Montana’s Glacier Symphony, we've got a second show with the GSO at the beautiful new Wachholz College Center today at 3 PM.

Three visual pieces are on the program, each honoring Native American Heritage Month. One piece, "Visions," is a world premiere and features hundreds of historic, choreographed images depicting the people and lifeways of dozens of North American tribes by early 20th Century photographer Edward Curtis. Also on the program is a stirring musical world premiere, "The Hunting Moon," by conductor and composer John Zoltek. Multiple guest artists grace the stage for this not-to-be-missed experience.
