As we close out AANHPI heritage month, Filmatics is proud to spotlight writer/director Lindsay Sunada, one of the filmmakers of our in-house produced project, YUREI! With a passion for art direction, comedy, and choreography, she’s collaborated with Grammy nominated artists and has had her narrative work screened at festivals internationally. Her work is often inspired by wild places, and the hodgepodge of Asian, Hawaiian, and Western cultures that were her upbringing. When not working, you can find her surfing, eating Hot Cheetos, or wandering around the home decor department at Target.

Previously a Filmatics team member, Lindsay has found her way back as the first recipient of the content fund award. “As a director and human being who is constantly growing, "Yurei" feels like the most important project I have created so far. I learned so much from this story, even as I was creating it … this project was an attempt to explore and reassert my Asian heritage as an artist. It sounds silly, but as someone who has grown up striving to assimilate into an “idealized” image of Whiteness, it took courage to finally admit to myself, and the world through this film, that I am not afraid to express everything that I am.” - Lindsay Sunada
