Michael Jackson and Princess Diana shared a deep, private friendship forged by their mutual struggles with intense media scrutiny and the isolation of global fame. Despite only meeting in person once, they bonded over late-night phone calls where they offered each other emotional support and empathy.
They met face-to-face in July 1988 at Wembley Stadium during Jackson’s Bad World Tour. Diana famously told him she wanted him to perform his hit song "Dirty Diana," which he had initially considered removing from the setlist out of respect for her.
Jackson later revealed that they frequently spoke on the phone into the early hours of the morning. They found solace in each other, as they both felt they were the only people who could truly understand the intense pressure, lack of privacy, and media harassment they experienced.
