The Big House

Community hub and small business incubator in South Los Angeles. The certified kitchen teaches culinary skills and hosts community leader gatherings.

The Big House, a three-story Craftsman home in South Los Angeles, serves predominantly Black and Latino communities with social, business, and entertainment services. Owned by Jorge Nuño, it operates as an incubator for start-up not-for-profits focusing on small business consulting, food equity, and workforce development. The Big House also hosts events like weddings and quinceañeras and served as

the Los Angeles headquarters for Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. Through different community partners, offers free services such as legal aid, financial literacy workshops, food giveaways, and classes on small business and entrepreneurship, The Big House is a community sanctuary open daily for neighborhood children and teens to socialize and skateboard. Jorge runs The Big House at his own expense, ensuring it remains a beacon of support and unity for South Los Angeles.

En estos momentos, nuestra comunidad está viviendo mucha incertidumbre, estrés y miedo debido a las redadas y la constante presión que enfrentan muchas familias inmigrantes. Eso afecta nuestra salud mental, nuestras emociones y nuestra vida diaria — incluso cuando tratamos de seguir adelante por nuestros hijos y seres queridos.

Por eso este jueves iniciamos una serie semanal de conversaciones comunitarias sobre salud mental en The Big House. 💚
