Lately, I’ve been leaning into the idea that less is more. I tend to be a maximalist when it comes to my hobbies and ambitions, but that usually leaves me overwhelmed and tired. So, I’ve been thinking about how I can simplify, deepen, or combine the things I’m already doing instead of adding more. When it comes to art, I’m challenging myself to keep my subject matter in a few key areas-1) Women, which I already almost exclusively draw; 2) Plants, of which I have a small but growing illustrative library; and 3) Music and Dance, which are a big part of my personal life (the music part specifically) but I haven’t incorporated as much into my drawings. Like simplifying the overwhelm of day-to-day life, creating constraints to creative processes can bring clarity, focus, and even more contentedness. For now, I’ll be mainly locking into these categories-women and the plants and music that move them. (Don’t hold it against me if I stray from the path every once in a while!)
