When YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) alum Liliana Morales asked Gustavo Dudamel what the program signifies, his answer was simple: “It’s a symbol of community. It’s the idea of a society that is beautiful and that identifies itself with art, with culture. And one that is always open to transforming the next generation and the next.”

When Gustavo Dudamel joined the LA Phil as Music & Artistic Director, he made his values clear. Primary among them: that music is a fundamental human right. Through YOLA, young musicians from across Los Angeles who otherwise might not have had an opportunity to play with a major orchestra have performed at the Super Bowl, on tour with the LA Phil, and—just as importantly—at home in their own neighborhoods.
