WELCOME TO THE MEETCUTE TEAM, Makeda Declet! Makeda is joining us as a co-producer and curator. And remember, deadline to submit for our next MeetCute is March 1!
Makeda is a Guyanese-American writer, actor, and novice puppet-maker with a BFA in theater from New York University. Her passion lies in telling stories about Black family dynamics and addiction through the lens of Black, Q***r protagonists. And if she can make you laugh while she's at it, well, good for her! Meetcute change makers! We are sharing this invitation to join a weekly organizing group to make our theater community stronger. See this message from the group’s founders. Your voice and leadership are needed!!

Hey LA theatre makers!

There have been a lot of questions about what is next for the LA theatre community after a chaotic and tumultuous year. We are building those answers together through weekly community check-ins on Tuesdays at 10 am PST through Zoom, and we would love to have you part of the conversation!

Most spaces discussing the future of LA theatre are specific to Artistic Directors or Company Leadership, but we deeply believe these conversations need to include actors, designers, director, and anyone that identifies as an individual artist within LA theatre.

We intend to build a space that better supports equitable theatre-making across the board. We hope to transition LA Theatre into a new chapter, instead of going back to what we had, and that conversation needs to include all the theatre makers in LA!

The goals are simple:
Create a hub of information sharing, collaborative resources, and community engagement
Build a space that supports equitable theatre-making through anti-racist practices
Explore infrastructures to create more sustainable theatre in Los Angeles

Any LA theatre creative is welcome to join, no matter of company affiliation or title. We do ask that those who attend read and support of the LA Anti-Racist Theatre Standards, since these Standards are the foundation of the group.
