Southampton Arts Center hosted a conversation with artist Rebecca Moses, Ralph Pucci, and PALMER Magazine Editorial Director Stefano Tonchi as part of Moses’ “The Art of Observation” residency.
The discussion between Moses, Pucci, and Tonchi explored Moses’ creative journey, touching on the role of observation in the creative process, personal style and self-expression, and how an artist’s point of view continues to evolve over time. Pucci has worked with Moses for ten years, presenting several exhibitions of her work in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
Moses also debuted a new series of paintings, “I Think You Are Beautiful When You Are Bored,” featuring eleven new portraits of women dressed predominantly in black. The title poses the provocative question: Are we sometimes most compelling when we stop trying to be seen?
Moses’ residency at Southampton Arts Center was an experiential exhibition encompassing different aspects of the artist’s life, including a working studio, performance art, and conversation. Moses painted live throughout the week, offering an intimate look into her creative process. Visitors became part of an ongoing exchange: the audience observed the artist, the artist observed the world around her, and observation itself became creation.
