We won the Emmy!!!!

Uncanny Alley: A New Day is now an Emmy Award-winning live VR theatre production.

There is so much we want to share about this moment, and so many people we need to thank. We could not have reached this stage without the artists, collaborators, audiences, friends, peers, journalists, and communities who believed in the work and helped carry it forward.

Tonight, we’re simply going to be together, celebrate, and open the door to anyone who wants to stop by and say hello.

Big weekend ahead for Ferryman Collective.

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 5, we head to the Creative Arts Emmys / Television Academy, where Uncanny Alley: A New Day will be part of the ceremony and we’ll finally find out whether our little artist-led studio adds Emmy Award-winning to Emmy-nominated.

Whatever happens, getting this far with a live VR theatre production has already been an extraordinary journey.

And while one chapter reaches its big moment, another is beginning.

We’re thrilled to announce The Crossing: Ferryman Apprentice Program, our new mentorship initiative supporting emerging VR theatre creators as they develop and produce their own live virtual theatre work with guidance from Ferryman Collective.

Our first recipient is Tanvi Agrawal, who will be creating a new VR theatre production with us, with performances planned for the beginning of October, set inside the amazing https://www.shtik.tv/Strangeways world.

Today is the final day of Emmy voting, and before this chapter closes, we just want to say thank you.

What a journey this has been.

When Uncanny Alley: A New Day was nominated for an Emmys / Television Academy in the Outstanding Emerging Media Program, we knew we were stepping into a very big arena as a small, independent, artist-led team. What we could not have anticipated was the extraordinary outpouring of support that followed.

Friends shared our posts. Peers told our story. Journalists came to experience the work. People introduced us to people. Communities opened doors. Audiences put on headsets, joined us in VRChat, watched our livestreams, and cheered us on from around the world.

So many of you gave us your time, your platforms, your voices, and your encouragement.

We will never forget it.

Whatever happens when the envelope is opened, this nomination has already taken us somewhere we never imagined we would be. We are incredibly proud of the work, proud of the artists who created it, and grateful to everyone who helped an independent live VR theatre production stand alongside some of the biggest names in entertainment.

This one feels especially good. Film Threat really understood what makes Uncanny Alley: A New Day different.

They called us a “scrappy, artist-led immersive theater piece” and highlighted the thing at the heart of the work: audiences don’t simply watch, they step inside, interact with live actors, and help shape a performance happening in real time.

They also captured the bigger picture beautifully: live, shared virtual experiences are starting to be taken seriously as their own storytelling form.

We are in the final push now. Emmy final-round voting for Outstanding Emerging Media Program closes Wednesday, August 26.

And what an incredible way to head into the final stretch for Ferryman Collective+Virtual Worlds Company VR Theatre Production, Uncanny Alley: A New Day.

Forbes Senior Contributor David Bloom took the time to experience Uncanny Alley: A New Day, speak with us, and really understand what we are trying to build with live VR theatre.

For a small, independent, artist-led team, having our work seen and our story told at this level means more than we can say.

David called Uncanny Alley: A New Day a “quirky, boundary-pushing hybrid virtual/live experience,” and recognized that what makes it different is the live actors, audience interaction, and the fact that every performance becomes its own unique experience.

This is the kind of visibility we have been hoping for.

Meet Deirdre V. Lyons, Artistic Director of Ferryman Collective, and a principle in the creation of our Emmy-nominated live VR theatrical production.

Deirdre has helped shape Ferryman Collective around a simple idea: take the traditions of live immersive theatre and place them inside virtual worlds. As Deirdre says, live theatre in VR can feel like 'Sleep No More' inside an open-world video game, where the actors respond to whatever the audience says or does.

For her, the “killer app” of this medium is human connection.
