Spectacular Comet NEOWISE!

1996
Albuquerque represented the United States for the Sixth International Cairo Biennale in 1996 and received the Biennale Prize with her Sol Star project. An ephemeral art installation south of the Great Pyramids of Giza, Sol Star consisted of three tons of powdered blue pigment arranged in a specific pattern of ninety nine blue circles across the desert surface. Each pigment circle was of a different diameter to reflect the varying brightness of the stars directly above. Sol Star created a star map “reflection” on the sands of this ancient site. A video linked this ephemeral work to a corresponding museum installation. 🔵

Please join as we observe the transit of the planet Mercury across the solar disc. A rare celestial event that won’t happen again until 2032. The event starts tomorrow (Monday 11/11/2019) at sunrise and ends at 10am. We will be observing with the 150ft Solar Tower, Snow Telescope, and a Hydrogen Alpha telescope at our Astronomical Museum auditorium. Talk about star power. Mt. Wilson has an amazing history. Up here, astronomers first measured the Milky Way and discovered the universe was expanding. Go see the distant stars for yourself and expand your universe as well.
