A colleague remembers the ‘Coyote Cycle’ playwright and Padua Hills co-founder, who died on Oct. 17 at age 86, for his metrical dialogue, his tenacity, and his mentorship.

Please read and share this tribute to my friend and mentor, Padua's founder, the playwright, Murray Mednick.

"There’s a guilty pleasure, akin to an elegant, victimless crime, in the co-construction of that kind of stage event, a sense of having outwitted for some period of time, the suffocating apparatus of soul extraction that so central to contemporary consumer culture. “F**k you and good riddance,” you are able to say to the power for a few minutes, an hour tops, in the glow that follows a night where the cast has kicked ass. This was the kind of thing Murray enjoyed most, and he was good at engineering it and ready to throw down to make it happen. Many others in this community were as well, but none of us have lasted as long as Murray, chiseling always at that opening, determined for a jail break."
