The Case For Pair of Wings Versus A Pair Of Hands
Would you rather have wings or hands?
If you had to choose
Would it be an arm’s length or wingspan?
Which one would you use?
Wings will help you fly
Way up into the bluest sky
Having hands you’ll grab hold of things
What is better, hands or wings?
With the world at your fingertips
You can be as light as a feather if you dare
Will you put yourself in God’s hands?
Or travel on a wing and a prayer?
Open hands can touch and feel the grip
Of textures never felt before
Wide open wings, a pair uplifts
In a context where they freely soar
Which will it be?
fingers that ache & swell, shake & knock
Or on the horizon do you see
feathers that fall off from the flock
Hands can make a fist
And say “I had enough of this”
Wings can spread without caress
And take you high above the mess
Hands can bless - Wings finesse
Fingers point - Feathers anoint
Hands can carry a load that pulls you through
Yes, but wings can also carry you
Hands can drop things then pick them up again
Wings adopt streams of air to chase the wind
Hands embrace, let you go and let go of
Wings embark, let you know and let flow, love
A pair of hands or a pair of wings
Apparently on almost any day
The hands-of-time compares both things
And lets us spread our wings anyway
