Caution! Writers at Play was such a beautiful first chapter 💛

From a full house at the open mic to multigenerational folks sharing space and stories, you helped make this community a home for BIPOC writers for the day. We ate well thanks to and , made zines, set intentions, and watched people meet, reconnect, and build in real time.

Thank you to all our features, facilitators, panelists, publishers, and orgs who poured into the space:

also a special shout-out to .vthxn for being our DJ for the day!
…and everyone who helped shape the day.

Much love to for hosting and holding the room with so much care, and to sparked the idea to hold this fest as an ode to the “APIA Spoken Word & Poetry Summit” and co-organized it with Soul Stuf, growing it into a literary fest centering BIPOC writers in Historic Filipinotown.

We’d love to keep building with you and we hope to see you again on Sunday, June 7 for Sunday Jump Open Mic as we celebrate Pride Month and keep the HEAT RISING. ❤️‍🔥🌈

Our theme this season is: Heat Rising. 🔥
☄️ Heat is a powerful form of energy, vital for survival. It is supplied from the sun, the stove for a home-cooked meal, the hugs we give each other, redistributed through touch and connection. It is light, warmth, and care in times of turmoil. It can be found in the fire ignited within ourselves. Fire can burst into chaos, a symbol for uprisings and revolution, but also renewal. It rises and inspires change. It can also burn out and in the aftermath, allow growth and new life to emerge.

For the month of June, this show is dedicated to Ignition. By definition, the term refers to the act of starting a fire or setting off a process. Let this be your sign to ignite that fire within yourselves, your community, your power.
