During dry dock maintenance, inspectors discovered a damaged section around one of the heavy structural supports surrounding the rudder stock on this enormous cargo vessel. Years of steering loads, vibration and harsh marine conditions had worked the surrounding steel until a visible crack developed near the support connection.

With the vessel secured in dry dock, the steering system was isolated and the damaged structure was opened for inspection. Following the engineered repair plan, the affected steel was prepared and a thick curved reinforcement section was fabricated to fit around the existing support. Lifting equipment positioned the heavy steel while alignment around the rudder assembly was carefully monitored.

Multiple controlled weld passes secured the reinforcement to the surrounding structure. Fresh unpainted weld beads stood out against the weathered marine steel, while the enormous rudder stock beside the repair showed its true scale. The finished work remained exposed for inspection and alignment checks before testing.

A long crack was discovered around one of the main tank saddle connections on this enormous mining water truck. Carrying thousands of gallons across rough haul roads puts constant twisting loads through the chassis and tank supports, and years of vibration had finally taken a toll on the heavy steel structure.

The truck was taken out of service and the tank was emptied and secured before the damaged support was inspected. Following the repair plan, the affected steel was prepared and a massive reinforcement section was fabricated to match the saddle profile. Heavy lifting equipment positioned the plate while the crew checked its fit and alignment before controlled welding began.

Multiple weld passes completed the reinforced connection, leaving thick fresh beads clearly visible around the repair. With the huge tank above and tires taller than a person beside it, the scale was impressive. The final welds remained unpainted and fully visible for inspection and testing before the truck returned to the haul roads.

A deep crack was found across one of the main frame connections on this enormous steel mill ladle car. The machine carries vessels filled with molten metal through the plant, and years of extreme heat, weight and constant movement had taken a serious toll on the heavy steel structure.

The ladle car was removed from operation and allowed to reach a safe maintenance condition before the damaged section was inspected. The affected steel was prepared according to the engineered repair procedure, and a massive reinforcement plate was fabricated for the frame. An overhead crane lowered the plate into position while the crew carefully checked its fit and alignment.

The completed repair required substantial controlled weld passes around the reinforcement. Fresh unpainted weld metal contrasted sharply with the dark, heat stained steel surrounding it. Standing beside the huge wheels and frame showed the true scale of the job. The repair remained exposed for inspection and testing before the ladle car could return to service.

The boom was safely supported while the damaged area was exposed and assessed. Following the approved repair plan, the affected steel was prepared and a large reinforcement section was fabricated to match the boom profile. One of the enormous steel links from a container ship anchor chain showed serious surface damage during inspection. The link was nearly as tall as the welder working beside it, and years of saltwater exposure and heavy loading had left a damaged section that required controlled repair before further evaluation.

The massive link was secured inside the shipyard workshop while the affected area was cleaned and prepared. The steel was brought to the required repair condition and the damaged section was rebuilt using controlled heavy weld passes. Each layer was cleaned and inspected before the next pass was added, slowly restoring the original profile of the huge chain link.

By the time the welding was complete, a wide band of fresh weld metal covered the repaired section. The contrast between the bright unpainted repair and the dark weathered chain made every pass clearly visible. The link remained isolated for the required inspection and acceptance process before any decision on returning it to service.

The rear chassis section on this massive mining dump truck developed a deep crack beside one of the suspension mounting areas. Years of carrying enormous loads over rough haul roads had worked the steel until the crack became impossible to ignore. We parked the truck, exposed the damaged section and cleaned everything back to solid steel. After preparing the crack, I fabricated a heavy reinforcement plate from 1 inch steel and shaped it to follow the chassis profile. The joint was welded in multiple heavy passes before the reinforcement plate was fitted across the stressed area. The scale of the repair was huge, with weld beads that looked small until someone stood beside them. The final welds were left unpainted and fully visible.

An old steel equipment wheel had developed a crack near the rim center where years of vibration had stressed the metal. I removed the wheel, cleaned the damaged area back to bare steel and inspected the surrounding section before starting the repair. I prepared the crack, brought the damaged area back into alignment and welded it in controlled passes. I then dressed the repaired area and checked the wheel carefully for distortion before putting it back into service. The repair came out clean and the wheel stayed true during the final check. The finished weld was left unpainted and fully visible.
