Since 1968, the Art Centers have mentored and represented artists with intellectual disabilities. The program originally began as a single site in the South L.A. area, and since 2008 has expanded to encompass three other locations.

Congratulations to Westside artist Mycah Christian Mays!

We’re proud to announce that Mycah’s work has been selected for Here WE ARE: Disability Pride in California, a group exhibition presented by Art Explorers featuring artists from eight progressive art studios across California.

Throughout the month of July, Art Explorers will also host presentations and talks by artists and advocates to increase visibility and awareness within the community.

The exhibition opens on First Friday, July 3rd and will culminate in a closing reception on July 24 featuring special guest speaker, Nicole Adler, followed by a dance party at the Art Explorers studio.

Art Explorers is located in Fort Bragg, CA. So, if you’re in the area please stop by and check out these amazing works.

This week, Westside Studio artist Maurice Issac led a lei making workshop at Lauren Halsey’s Sister Dreamer Sculpture Park in South Los Angeles.

Maurice shared the inspiration behind his love of Hawaiian-themed artwork before guiding participants in creating wearable mixed-media fabric leis inspired by Hawaiian colors, flowers, and celebration. Every lei became a one-of-a-kind artwork, reflecting each participant’s creativity while celebrating Maurice’s unique artistic vision.

This is the first of what we hope will be many ECF Art Centers artist-led workshops at Sister Dreamer Sculpture Park this summer. Stay tuned for upcoming workshop dates!

We’re pleased to be part of ArtLabbé’s 5th annual arts and poetry exhibition, Liberté. Featuring works by Hunter Denim, Armando Farillas, Alyssa Nagahiro, Jorge Ramirez, Brendan Tury, and Juan Romo. The exhibition will be on view at the ArtLabbé gallery in Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone.

Join us for the opening reception this Thursday from 5–7pm. The exhibition remains on view through June 10.
