If i, as a uniquely abled person, donate here, will the world implode?
I am disabled, I am blind, but I am not “uniquely abled”. I’ve heard visually challenged, differently abled, etc, but they all highlight the lack of awareness surrounding ableist language. Case in point, proudly states on their website that they take advantage of the Special Minimum Wage Certificate, which allows them to employ people with disabilities at a sub minimum wage rate. It’s expensive to be disabled and most people with disabilities receive barely enough assistance to get by, but then we are also penalized for making too much money, which effectively keeps us in a cycle of poverty. So is it any wonder that Good Will would demonstrate their disregard for the largest minority in the world in this manner? Please do better. We’re all human and want to be treated that way. You can’t eat your cake and have it too. You can’t claim to help the disabled community when you’re knowingly and intentionally continuing the cycle by exploiting our labor. The reason this policy is still allowed to exist is because people believe that disabled people can’t do the work, when we often work just as if not much harder than the average able body person due to societal barriers that make the world inaccessible.
