The final penny.
Final pennies struck Nov 12, 2025 at the Philadelphia Mint.
In the dark corners of drawers and under old rugs, beside Matchsticks, paperclips, rubber bands, lint, and all the forgotten things—they waited. Overlooked. Undervalued. Ours.
A coin too small for the world it helped build.
It costs 3.7¢ to mint a 1¢ coin. So after 232 years, the presses go quiet.
The ones already out there—hundreds of billions of them—will keep passing through pockets and fountains and jars. Still legal. Still lucky. Still here.
Tonight, a tiny goodbye to a tiny light: luck on sidewalks, Lincoln in a thumbprint, a whisper of value in the least of things.
The penny is dead.
Long live the penny.
