I’ve been trying to find the words to say this —and I’m a writer— so that should come pretty easily.
I’m unemployed.
I was laid off on Friday, May 24. The day before my and Mike’s 4-year anniversary. Happy 4 years, sweetheart. I just got laid off. Wanna order a pizza?
I have been in LA for 12 years. I’ve been in the food industry 7 of those years. This was my first entertainment industry job and I was thrilled when they hired me almost 2 years ago. And just like that— p**f, gone. The worst part is, the entire company closed. Plus, I’m not the only one to be laid off by the entertainment industry. It’s been rough for me and my creative friends. I feel for you all. I hurt for the industry. Something has to change. Or, I’m gonna take up welding or something…
I’m sad. I’m angry. I’m hurt. I’m disappointed. I’m pretty much feeling all the feelings right now. This selfie was taken at my first and last on-location shoot. I hope I’m able to work in the industry again because I’ve worked towards this my whole life.
In the meantime, I’m not letting this bring me down. I’m still working on my creative projects. I’m still a creative. I’m still an artist.
If you know someone who is struggling with their entertainment job or struggling to find an entertainment job— lend them your ear or your shoulder for me. Support the arts. Support the artist.
