The Collective Studio: LA originally began as a workshop company serving actors and creative talents. The Studio then expanded its services in Fall of 2011, under the Actors Equity 99 Seat Plan, and began producing theatrical shows. The Collective Studio founder, Kelly Shea, produced the company's first production, as an outlet for creativity and an act of social engagement by partnering with non-profits that are in line with the plays' themes. In year's past they have collaborated with The Boys and Girls Club and Rescue-A-Life Foundation by encouraging the organizations' participants to perform or have in-put in the show's direction. Additionally, the proceeds from the shows have all been donated to The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, Peace Over Violence and Rescue-A-Life Foundation, to name a few. The Collective Studio gives artists a chance to audition for and participate in a professional theater experience, as well as provide an opportunity for us to give back to the community we serve. The studio continues to host workshops selectively for actors allowing artists to grow creatively and network socially. We begin with a brief Q & A and limit class size to about sixteen people and each student comes in with a prepared scene and reads one-on-one with a reader for the casting director. Every actor goes on tape and leaves with a quicktime of their material and the casting director leaves with a dvd of all the students reads. We like to keep our class size small so each actor gets the appropriate attention and informative information they deserve as well as have the casting director enjoy their time and not have to spend all hours of the day or night there after a long work day.
