LOS ANGELES, CA……
If you took the late Lord Buckley, infused him with a little Charles Bukowski, then just very lightly sprinkled him with the magic of the late Marty Feldman, you get actor, character actor, chameleon, comedian, and Corinthian Larry Hankin, a veteran TV and film comic actor whose roots lay in the most insane fertile comedy ground like ever: the iconic ground-breaking The Committee. From his utterly water cooler role as the actor who the fictional network within the series of Seinfeld wanted to cast as “Kramer” to his recent red-hot appearance on Bill Hader’s new show “Barry”, Academy Award nominee Larry Hankin is a swirling creative mind capable of having worked with the likes of Woody Allen and Miles Davis. With over 40 TV and 80 film rolls, Hankin represents every working actor’s dream. And, now, in a return engagement of his new one-man show, Hankin gives us another chance to peer into comedy genius.
STREET STORIES first premiered at The Fanatic Salon last April to sold-out houses at the most user friendly comedy theater venue on the West Side. Consisting of three character driven hilarious stories which when improbable detail upon ridiculous circumstance hook up, the audience instinctively knows they are on a Swiftian journey. Hankin doesn’t just act out these stories in character; he narrates them, but when his characters need to speak, like the great Eddie Izzard, Hankin seamlessly steps in, voices, then quickly steps off the character boat and swiftly back onto narrator’s deck; and he does it all without taking a single breath. His energetic art of deft delivery at top of the show are incredible doggerel poems, literally worthy of the best Hip Hop by way of the late great Gil Scott-Heron. STREET STORIES is presented without apparent form, without pretense and without a break. Once strapped in, we’re suddenly on a rickety roller-coaster, commanded by a man who has either just robbed a bank or worse, discovered the cure for cancer and is about to be assassinated by Big Pharma. Larry Hankin learned from the masters, worked with the masters and by artistic alchemy, Larry Hankin is a master. Don’t miss this incredible show!
