Some updates on what we’ve been up to these past few months! The marathon continues! This is legacy work, and we are proud to be doing our part for equity and anti-racism in the arts. Ours is an industry of imagination, and right now our industry is being choked by oppressive structures. But we will not back down, and we are so grateful to be in community with such strong and brilliant folks.

We are using community intervention to disrupt a culture of silence and retaliation that has hurt our industry for so long. If that community member had brought their concerns individually to the leadership at Theatricum, what do you think would’ve happened? What has happened to too many of us: they are silenced and targeted for speaking out. We don’t want to see that happen any more to our community.

SAY NO!

Thank you for standing up against a culture of racism, retaliation, and disrespect. BLKLST stands with you in defending Black women, we stand with you in rejecting the white supremacist infrastructure that hurts us and hurts our art. We are looking forward to seeing more people SAYING NO to the harm we’ve been indoctrinated into thinking we just abide. We have the power to change our industry and it is by saying NO!

We are beyond tired of watching BIPOC women have their lives and livelihood threatened for daring to imagine (and daring to create!!!) a better world. We condemn the threats that Nataki has had to endure and we stand in solidarity with her incredible efforts to bring true equality and creative justice to our industry.

For too long, marginalized folks have been told that this kind of harassment and violence is the price we must pay to be heard. We rebuke this expectation.
