In the late 1960s, as the era of color television dawned, Hawaii Five-0 creator Leonard Freeman commissioned composer Morton Stevens to craft a theme worthy of a groundbreaking new series.
After immersing himself in the spirit of Hawaii, Stevens returned to Los Angeles and recorded the theme inside what is now EastWest Studios. Conducting the CBS Orchestra — with Wrecking Crew saxophonist Tom Scott, engineer Ted Keep, and producer Mel Taylor — Stevens captured a bold, driving sound that would define the show and transcend television.
The Hawaii Five-0 theme became one of the most recognizable TV themes in history, influencing covers, adaptations, and performances across generations.
A cultural landmark, recorded inside EastWest Studios.
