Updated 4.21.25 - Mike Player's workshop is now called the "Comedy Smash Improv Workshop" and is q***r and q***r friendly. Workshop is led by Mike Player (www.mikeplayer.net). Mike is the founder of two improv/sketch comedy groups. Shock of the Funny in New York, and The Gay Mafia in Los Angeles. He was the director of The Gay Mafia and has been coaching improv for 35 years. Mike trained in improvisation in Los Angeles with DeVera Marcus of Off The Wall. He went on to become artistic director and founding member of the long-running Shock of the Funny Theater Company in New York. The troupe performed in colleges, clubs, their own theater, and at Lincoln Center. Mike is a graduate of the Warner Brothers Comedy Writers Workshop. He taught improv comedy workshops at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, The Village in Hollywood, and at Cal Arts. The Gay Mafia has performed across the country, in the movie "Outlaugh!" and on three episodes of "The Outlaugh Festival on Wisecrack" on LOGO. Mike was the director and head writer for The Gay Mafia. He also performed with the company.
