A few years ago, I never would’ve imagined I’d be at the Licensing Expo representing a development company I built.

Now I’m in Las Vegas having meetings about IP, partnerships, expansion, and future opportunities for projects we are developing through Nova House and honestly? That’s, wild, right?

A lot of “hell yes” moments happening this week.

Most of you aren’t actually listening in your reads.

You’re anticipating.
Filling space.
Trying to drive the scene instead of responding to it.

It’s something we see all the time.

At IASK, that’s the shift.

Actors come in with those instincts.
Then we work.

They start listening.
They stay open.
They let the moment happen instead of forcing it.

And everything changes.

Voice Actors - overpreparing is costing some of you work.

If your read only works one way, it’s not as strong as you think it is.

A lot of actors walk in (or hit record) with something polished, rehearsed, planned…
but the second it needs to shift, it falls apart.

That’s a problem.

In casting we aren’t just listening for a good take.
We’re listening for range, flexibility, and how quickly you can find something new without losing the truth.

That shows up in callbacks.

But it starts in your auditions…alone, in your booth. 😱

The ability to flex and change? That’s an improv skill.
And it’s exactly what we train in IASK.

Not theory. Reps.

So your reads don’t just sound good,
they hold up when something changes.

I’m a Casting Director, and I pass on “good” auditions every day.

They’re solid.

Good pacing.
Good energy.
Good instincts.

But they don’t stand out.

Because when you’re one of hundreds of submissions,
“good” starts to sound the same.

And sameness gets skipped.

If your auditions feel strong but don’t book…

And that’s exactly why they don’t book.

We had the best time.

And somehow people left better voice actors than when they walked in.

Same day. Every city. Dallas, New York, Seattle, Sacramento, Vancouver, LA.

One actor went straight back to her booth and booked Nickelodeon AND Pixar.

That’s IASK. Four hours. Live improv. Real direction. A full animated table read. Tools you can use the same day you learn them.
