“Active listening” is a term that gets thrown around so much in classes - but when we boil it down it really means listening with focus and intention to the person who is speaking to be able to understand what they are communicating.
Often actors are waiting for their cues or anticipating their next line, and so they may not seem activated within the scene circumstances or be showing interest in the interaction or person they are speaking to! When you can really focus on the intention of the interaction and listen to the other character for understanding, the scene can come alive in a new and exciting way!
That connection is a huge piece of auditioning!
