Played tennis for most of my life. College, juniors, all of it. Still play 1-2 times per week.

It’s still a huge part of my life.

The weird thing is how much of it shows up now. Not in obvious ways. Mostly in how I deal with stuff not working. Long projects, rough days, calls that don’t go anywhere.

In tennis you lose a lot, Federer only won 54% of his points and that’s one of the greats. Most of us lose more than half.
That’s why tennis is the sport that makes you the most resilient in life, handling the ups and downs.

I didn’t go to film school.

A lot of my favorite filmmakers didn’t either.
Paul Thomas Anderson dropped out of NYU after two days. Quentin Tarantino worked at a video store. Barry Jenkins went to Florida State, which cost a fraction of the big programs and gave him the same education. Ryan Coogler and Ari Aster both went on full scholarships.

The common thread isn’t the school. It’s what they were doing when they weren’t in school.
