The Community Garden. A crack in the ever expansive pavement where a little bit of life can poke through.

A return to nature harvest among the car horns and sky scrapers and concrete.

If you are fortunate enough to have one near you, I highly recommend you take advantage of it.

I had one near me I always wanted to partake in, but like so often, I let life get in the way and kept postponing it until one the garden was no more...just an empty lot for some developer.

Briefly, the neighborhood converted it into a dog park. A place for the pups to play while we chatted safely apart from one another. It too has now been taken away and chained up. Beautiful green grass locked in a cage.

The Spadina Home

Hidden away in the excess of Beverly Hills, an illustration ripped from a storybook resides.

The now historic building formerly resided on a movie studio lot, having served as a dressing room, studio office, and set during the silent movie era of Hollywood.

A bit of magick surviving modernism.

"Under Housing Development, the Dog Park"

I may have slightly paraphrased Bernard Cousin there but I am sure he'd agree.

This plot of land was for the longest time a community garden. It was never well tended but a few people partook, but mostly it was pretty over grown. Then a couple of years ago, like so many buildings around here, it was bought with the idea of it being turned into a condo or something that is pretty unaffordable to the average person where it would sit mostly empty while 40,000 Los Angelenos sleep homeless on the streets.

But as time passed, no building was elected.

When the quarantine hit, I noticed that the bindings that previously locked the lot from trespassing was cut or removed. Slowly it's become a neighborhood dog park. I dunno if the owner of the land opened it up (someone told me that which is nice I suppose) or as I like to think of it, the community seized back the the land for community usage.

Either way, it provides something for the neighborhood. A place for dogs to play for sure, Sofie is certainly appreciative of it. But also, for the community to introduce its self, muffled shouting though a mask to the nex person several feet away perhaps, but introduce its self never the less in a way I've never seen before.

I'd like to imagine Bernard would his doggo here too. Its probably named Pablo.

(Yes, I assure you we're open... (for take out)

We need a laugh. Man we need a laugh. 2020 feels like the longest year possible and its only April. Its telling, we skipped April Fool's Day because, well, pranks just don't seem timely right now. Between the pandemic, and the election and just the economic strain so many people are feeling right now, we could really use some levity.

I had a bad day today, faced with a deadline my internet goes out and I have to replace the modem. Which means I lost 4 to 5 hours of work and that means I'll be up super late which will through off tomorrow. I was really frustrated. I also had no idea why I was going to take a photo of today (trying to do these daily). But I brought my camera with me as I drove to burbank and drove by this clever nod to one of my favorite movies, "Clerks".

I realized I left my SD card in my laptop but rather than get more frustrated I just used my phone to snap this. It was pretty obvious I was meant to see this and share it; whatever means necessary. So hopefully the cleverness makes you chuckle like it did me.

I have always loved street art in Los Angeles. From the first time I came here for work back in 2010 till now, there's a hidden language in the streets if you look.

The above plart is by . And perhaps it's just a cheeky piece, something to shock or maybe cause you to blush as you walk by. But I see something different.

During this time in quarantine, we have options. Do we emerge exactly as we are before Covid? Or do we use this time to self reflect, strip away bad habits, remove ill thoughts, toss away prejudices...strip ourselves bare so that we can come back into the world refreshed, with deeper perspective and a wonderment to live life more positively...naked and new.

Today is earth day and as I type this, LA, a city known for its smog, is enjoying the cleanest air in the country. All the pollution has been stripped away.

The Universe is asking us how we will return from this quarantine. I for one, are hoping we as a society send nudes.

Angels. I was born in a city named after the body of christ (literally) and moved to a city named after Angel's. I always liked the idea of Angels even as I rejected the dogma of organization christianity. I suppose having been raised Catholic, they were the first superheros I knew of. Suits of arms, spears, swords, wings that took them soaring through the heavens; vanquishing their foes.

In ceremonial magick, Angels are evoked to carry out your will and to protect you.

Or, if that doesn't quite sit right with you, think of Angels as "signs" from the universe. Or even still, those happy little moments or events that bring a sense of quiet happiness.

Doesn't really matter how you want to envision them but they are out there for you to form a deeper connection with, if you believe you can find them.

To this day, the one movie that will make me weep uncontrollably is "Angels in the Outfield". Stupid I know, but the end scene where Tony Danza has nothing left, but Danny Glover and Joseph Gordon Levitt conjure up a plan to make him believe an Angel showed up to help him. All of the stadium does the flappy arm motion and Tony's character has a moment of faith that he can throw the final strike. He believed and in a way he failed. He didn't throw the strike like he expected but yet when the ball was hit, he caught it and still got the out. The power was always within his ability to believe in himself and to let go of his insecurities. The universe answers your intentions; just a little differently than you expect sometimes.

So look around. What are your angels?

Thank you to to pointing out where this little gem was hidden.

One of my favorite places to walk by, I have never been able to find any information on "The Handshake Tattoo" parlor located on the side of Jones Hollywood.

In a void of information, I've chosen make up my own story about this door to nowhere. I imagine it was the entrance way to a speak easy during prohibition times. Later, maybe it became a secret meeting place for Hollywood elite to practice Magick. Or it served as a meeting for the Mob. Or perhaps it was just a tattoo parlor long since out of business but the owners liked it and kept it.

That's the fun of not having the answers, you can allow your creativity to fill in the blanks.

What do you believe the Handshake Tattoo Parlor led to?
