"Contact" Brent R. Garbowski's solo exhibition at EWS has two more days to view. The gates will be open Friday & Saturday, noon-6pm. Then, the installation will come down. Please come take a gander. .
The gallery space in Brooklyn will be closed indefinitely. Thanks to all the folks that made it past the windows since March's lockdown and the numbered supporters that help uplift our small space with a big attitude. Our hearts are full of gratitude for the infinite support we have felt from our community of artists and friends the last 4 years and 37 exhibitions. We love you. Onward, upwards. When one door closes, another opens.

Last Day for « Future Fair » online (& Artsy). Work is made of found weathered commercial cardboard boxes. 'Skins' are peeled and turned into 'Pelts' by Clive Murphy. Notice nuanced drawings that co-mingle with the commercial print. Artist framed with hard maple and a tight 11 1/2 x 13 3/4 fit neatly into grids. The wall works and "Inflatables" add a punk-rock, neo-Dada sensibility that mock a staple of commerce in the lockdown. The cheeky, yet carefully considered works are re-purposed in a post-utopian consumerism. Link in bio to see and read more.

This is the last weekend for "Glossy Inviolability" by Zsófia Keresztes at the gallery. We will miss "The Failure," so much. Where will she find a home? Who will continue to peer into her eyes at our studio in Newburgh? She is ready for more looks! She loves the outdoors and would add grandeur to any garden, or patio. She is striking, no? She is a diva. She is charged with so much energy after all of the buzz surrounding her. She's a cover girl. She's a best friend to the 'hood too!
What an incredible and wild run this show has had. Thank you to all of our friends, the press, the collectors, the community that have laid eyes all over these stunning beauties (in person or through the window) and have given the attention to the artist, the gallery and our sweet little home in Brooklyn. Cheers to the accolades and our sincere appreciation for all of the online love during this monumental shift in the way we live and enjoy art.
We added a few photos of the opening on Leap Year, alas, a day that was such a joy and the last time we shared libations together to celebrate the accomplishments of the artist. We are exceedingly thankful for the support of , for without whom, we would not have been able to make our dreams come true and bring Zsófia to NYC. Come by and say hello/goodbye to her on a long walk all day Saturday or Sunday morning. DM us.

“As a curator, presenting things with a subjective slant feels like a duty. The greatest potential of having a selective platform for professional artists is a type of one-stop shopping for contemporary socio-relevant curatorial concepts that I fantasize about exhibiting. Scrolling through powerful, well-crafted work becomes a field ripe with imagery that fulfills the craving. I enjoy pushing an intention and finding meaning ‘between’ the works. An outlandish idea I’ve had as of late is putting together a show with the title, Opt-out & Unsubscribe. As I gathered content for this concept, I found inspiration while visiting Artfare artist pages. I already trust that the community is strong. Chosen artists use materials, process and imagery recently uncovered as potentially relevant to today’s motive of individualism within macro/micro-targeted communications. Combining these works creates a semi-narrative that would adhere to a sociological questioning in an intimate multimedia exhibition.” — Carolina Wheat @ Elijah Wheat Showroom

Last weekend to see by . Saturday faculty and admission reps from MICA will hosting a reception to discuss the work, celebrate their Alum and meet future students. Please join us from 2PM-4PM today to meet Tianyi and hear her discuss more about the epic video installation.

From Artnet News: « China-born, New York-based Tianyi Zhang’s new gallery exhibition explores gender identity and power dynamics through media-informed role playing. In the titular multichannel video work, Zhang inhabits 99 different “high-femme” personas, all vocalizing the word “yes” in a different situation. Viewers are left to intuit each character’s emotional state and broader narrative based only on minimal visual context and the tone of their respective acquiescence. Together, the 99 simultaneous vignettes nod toward the overwhelming number of women who feel pressured to comply in a whole range of personal and professional scenarios every day—and how much would change if they instead decided to bear the (sometimes significant) risks of refusing. »
