Ah! My new CONVERSE campaign is out! For women by women and men at CONVERSE who support women🌹

When I was 17 I moved to LA not knowing anybody. I attended an art school with students twice my age. Because I was so young nobody in college took me seriously. When I graduated college I got a 9-5 working in the photo department at a fashion company. I worked long hours and barely made money to get by.

One day decided I had enough and wanted change. I wanted to learn and be around photography more. When I was 22 I did some work, working for some photographers. I worked on sets where I wasn’t allowed to touch the eq because it “ was too heavy”. My ideas on how to light things “ were stupid” and went unheard. I’ve even worked for photographers who told me I would NEVER be anything or doing ANYTHING.

When I was 23 I decided to leave people behind who didn’t believe in what I could do. I went freelance. I didn’t have any work lined up. Didn’t really know how freelanced worked. But I knew I loved photography and that was enough for me.

Freelancing in my early 20’s was probably the hardest years of my life. It’s true instagram is a highlight reel and we don’t really share the struggle to get where we are going. I really didn’t know what I was in for. I was the brokest and hungriest I ever been. I worked a bunch of odd jobs to keep my dreams alive.

It was a year and half ago that I saved a bunch of money from my jobs , moved into a cheaper smaller apartment, and decided that I would only do photography. It’s just NOW paying off.

It’s funny I get emails sometimes from people and ask how to “get in” to the industry . And to be honest I don’t think there really is an answer. All I know is you have to believe in yourself and believe in what you love doing. Make your voice heard.

This campaign is so dear to me because the women shot in these photos are women in my community and women who also have gone through struggles to make their dreams come true.
