He will be blessing those brave enough to sit in our cursed wheelchair at the Terrifying True Stories booth, 661. Whether it moves on its own while you are looking at it is between you and the wheelchair.

He is there to make sure you do not leave with more than a picture.

Terrifying True Stories will be haunting Midsummer Scream this Friday August 7 through Sunday August 9 at the Long Beach Convention Center, this map above will lead you straight to us, should you be brave enough to follow the arrow.

Come find the cursed wheelchair, if you dare a photograph with it. Come find the gift I have prepared for the curious among you, though I make no promises as to its nature.

A Navy sailor asked to stay in the most haunted room in an Alaskan hotel.

He wanted to prove ghosts weren't real.

In 2007, that sailor checked into Room 315 at the Alaskan Hotel in Juneau.

That night, police responded to screaming behind a locked door.

When they broke in, the walls were streaked in blood, the word "Help" written across them, and the sailor was gone, having jumped straight through the third-floor window.

He survived the fall. He's never said what he saw in that room.

She hid in a box. It locked behind her. When they finally found her, it was too late. 🪦

Every wedding needs one more game before the night ends, and that was Alice's mistake. The story predates any single house in England that claims it happened there. 🖤

Known as the Legend of the Mistletoe Bough, it tells of a bride who slips away during her own celebration to hide in an old chest, only for the lid to lock behind her. 🔒

She's searched for that night, the next day, and then not found for years. Bramshill House in Hampshire is the most cited location (a chest said to be hers is still on display), and the tale became a well known ballad in the 1800s.

No case has ever been verified: different tellings name different brides, and historians consider it folklore that attached itself to real old houses, not a documented event.

In Victorian Horror Stories, when they find her, she is no longer alive. But she is not quite dead either. She is still in the box, still waiting, and she still wants you to come find her. 🖤

You didn't die. Everyone just thinks you did. 🪦

⚰️ Now you're six feet underground, in a box built for a co**se, screaming into wood that no one above you will ever hear.

It sounds like fiction. It wasn't. Premature burial, being buried before you were actually dead, was a real fear that gripped the Victorian era. Doctors of the time had no reliable way to confirm death, and the stories of people waking up too late spread far enough that by the 1840s, inventors started patenting solutions. 💡

Swipe through to see what they came up with: coffins fitted with bells you could ring from inside 🔔, breathing tubes that ran down to the box, even small ladders, all designed so a person buried alive could signal the world above, or climb out themselves.

Here's what almost never gets mentioned. Not one documented case exists of any of these devices actually saving a life. Not one. 🔕

Most people bury their pets. David Kronen picked up a blade instead.

Not out of morbidity. Out of curiosity. He wanted to know what killed his monitor lizard, so he performed the necropsy himself, and inadvertently walked into forensic science.

He cleaned the bones. Articulated the skeleton by hand. And found that he couldn't stop.

He'd started out processing animal skeletons from a studio in Woodland Hills. By 1993, he was casting those skulls in resin with such precision that museums couldn't tell them from the originals. He called the company Bone Clones. The first replica was a gorilla skull.

Today those casts sit in universities, medical schools, and natural history museums across the world. Endangered species. Ancient ancestors. Even human remains. Preserved for science, shared with the morbidly curious.

David Kronen passed away on June 4, 2022. He was 80 years old. The man who questioned death built something that outlasted him.

🖤 The living gather at Midsummer Scream this August, and this time I intend to be among them. 🖤

Terrifying True Stories will hold a place upon the floor at the Long Beach Convention Center, the 7th through the 9th. Find us at booth 661. Follow the cold. 💀

I am bringing a certain chair with me. A cursed thing, witness to rites meant to drive out what was never meant to enter. Sit for a portrait, if you dare. I cannot promise what sits down beside you. The brave leave with a gift.
