“What saves Horvitz’s exhibition from merely illustrating the current biennale-driven consensus is the emotional modesty of the work itself. Despite his institutional visibility, his art rarely seeks spectacle. Instead, it operates through small gestures of displacement and diverted attention. A deleted image. A marble filled with desert earth. A misplaced watercolor abandoned in an airport. A photograph uploaded into Wikipedia. A freezer meme. A hand-delivered postal object bearing the marks of travel. These are not grand statements so much as subtle disruptions within larger systems of circulation. The exhibition’s watercolor and rubber stamp works exemplify this quality. Arranged casually on the gallery floor, they possess an understated material intimacy that contrasts sharply with the immaterial vastness of online networks and global exhibitions. Horvitz’s art consistently oscillates between physical touch and virtual transmission, between private memory and collective system.”

San Francisco, you’re either too many helmets or pure evil, and I love you. In any case, too much for one nervous system to handle alone.

Check out and at opening this Saturday starting 2pm, Miljohn Ruperto at (continuing the Voynich [ #1 slide plants!] series and more), and continues on view in the gallery on 716 Sacramento Street. Or, write directly and I’ll show you what we have behind closed doors. (We like to hide here for said reason above).

Love,

Micki

Excerpt—

The aim of this convening at Wilbur is to bridge art and science, and co-develop some new systems thinking and workshop current ideas with ethicists across our fields.

Here are some positions of inquiry:

Drawing on lessons from FDR-era recovery strategies to account for ecological overshoot.
De-weaponizing economic instruments to serve collective well-being.
Establishing consensus truth in a post-marketing information ecosystem amongst broad networks that affect the commons.
How do we civilize without linearity?
How do we restructure the possession economy?
How do we elaborate common intelligence?
What is the overall function and potential of decentralized and open-source systems?
According to primate experts, there is no archeological evidence of large-scale violent conflict before agrarian society. How do we shift the industrial paradigm to one of intrinsic non-linearity?
Establishing a nation-wide nature forward campaign with just as much emphasis as breast cancer awareness.
Reconceptualizing labor towards areas of carbon sequestration.
Look towards all-sector budgets to give towards nature-saving initiatives including DAF’s, other industry sectors including areas of culture as well as governmental departments including DoW (How do we reframe defense sector as an environmental organization?)
Reframing nature as a non-partisan issue.
Scale biodiversity further beyond industry adopted language of carbon neutrality.
What does water and food security look like for the next 100 years?
What does an effective liberation economy look like?
Exploring the “superorganism” model to capture systemic interdependencies.
Ethical AI, quantum physics, mental health, new frontier ethics, pro-active generational safety and new effective democracy formation with transparent ecological awareness
Robotics and permaculture
Offensive strategies for nature
What does a radical center commons look like?

ideas worth more than the dollar. pay your artists and scientists.
