Liz Larner’s solo exhibition “A hard line to bend” opens at Camden Art Centre on September 11, 2026.

For the past three decades, Larner has explored the potential of sculpture to affect and expand our embodied encounter with the world. The exhibition brings together works primarily from the last decade and foregrounds the artist’s current ecological concerns and her continued radical experiments in material and form. “A hard line to bend” marks the first solo exhibition of Larner’s work at a major institution in the UK.

On Sunday, September 13, 1–2 pm, Camden Art Centre will host a conversation between Larner and award-winning novelist Joanna Kavenna.

Doug Aitken’s immersive 7-screen installation “Lightscape” closes at The Shed on September 13, 2026.

Regen Projects is pleased to present a focused presentation of small paintings and studies on canvas by Silke Otto-Knapp (1970-2022), September 16–October 24, 2026.

Concurrent with Elliott Hundley’s exhibition “Book of Sand,” Otto-Knapp’s show will be presented in the viewing rooms. Highlighting Otto-Knapp’s singular use of watercolor on canvas and her development of this technique, many of these works will be shown for the first time.

The exhibition also touches on her wide ranging and polymath subject matter—a repertoire including her appreciation of Marie Laurencin and Georgia O’Keeffe; her admiration for the work of Ingmar Bergman and Rainer Werner Fassbinder; her inspiration found in the choreography of Bronislava Nijinska, Yvonne Rainer, Trisha Brown and Michael Clark; her fondness for the Bauhaus and ancient Chinese scrolls; the genius of Yves Saint Laurent and a general love for fashion; as well as her love for nature and particularly the romantic seascape surrounding Fogo Island, and extending far beyond.

On Wednesday, September 9, Abraham Cruzvillegas Bewitches La Bruja de Texcoco at Giorno Poetry Systems.

Cruzvillegas comes to New York from Mexico City along with La Bruja de Texcoco, a singer, musician, actress, and dancer. “I’m interested in La Bruja de Texcoco’s work,” he says, “as a revelation of ancient voices intertwined with new ones, with more accurate perceptions of the specific needs of the 21st century—not only in terms of gender politics, but also as related to the future of music as a field of production of knowledge, pleasure, and desire.”

Singing and playing the harp, La Bruja will perform her appropriations of traditional Mexican rhythms while Cruzvillegas reads some of his poetry.

This event is free with RSVP required due to limited capacity.

Matthew Barney’s 1988 video work “SCABACTION” is included in the 16th Gwangju Biennale “You Must Change Your Life,” on view September 5–November 15, 2026.

“SCABACTION” is Barney’s first video work, made while he was still an art student, several years before the epic cinematic odysseys of “The CREMASTER Cycle” (1994–2002). Rarely screened publicly, it already introduces themes that would define his later practice: the body as an organic construction site, or as one part within a larger and more abstract apparatus.

In the work a strange mechanical-sexual substance lubricates the gears of this apparatus, while a sculpture is welded nearby. In an extreme close-up, a pair of pliers removes an ingrown hair from a male jawbone, twisting into the flesh of its human host like an invasive species or alien force. Endurance, injury, desire, and material change become inseparable, producing a body caught between discipline and mutation.

Elliott Hundley’s solo exhibition “Book of Sand” opens on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.⁠

The exhibition engages Jungian sandplay therapy, a method which enables unconscious elements of the psyche to become visible and processed by playing with miniature figurines in a tray of sand. Often used for children and adults who struggle with trauma, the sand tray provides another modality for expressing intense emotions beyond language. With each work in the exhibition, Hundley has allowed himself to follow a similar path of automatism, revealing his own exuberant internal universe.⁠
