We've been painting nocturnal works this month in The Art Life: Find Your Way Community Workshop. The work above is based on a cactus I photographed in Venice, California. In my painting, it was magically transported to the desert.

This is the second time I've painted this image. I had so much fun with the layers and colors.

I miss my desert drives. There's so much beauty to be found there.

If you'd like to join us, I have monthly memberships, subscriptions, and day passes available. We have two workshops this weekend, painting on Friday and art journaling (not shown) on Saturday.

Sorting collage papers for Saturday's Journaling for You workshop.

I sort through small amounts of collage material, setting aside what looks most interesting.

I'll take photos (like the ones you see above) and seeing them grouped together in this way, leads to different ideas.

I hope to see you Saturday. It's a virtual PWYCW, which enables me to keep workshops accessible and to keep teaching.

There is always light, even in the most desperate times. At least this is the truth we humans hold onto and tell ourselves in dark moments.

I'm grateful for my live painting sessions every Friday in The Art Life: Find Your Way Workshop. This month, we've been looking at a "sense of place" through memory, prompts, sharing, and the work of a wide variety of artists. My focus has been on New Mexico.

New Mexico is one of my favorite states. The blues in the sky, the colors of the desert, and the people and animals who live there never fail to enchant and enrich me.

This week's session was on various ways of looking, framing, memory, and the things we gather/collect.

I originally painted this motif last year as a commissioned painted book. I really liked revisiting it a year later and seeing the changes I made.

It's never too late to join us. Every month is something new.
