Reorganizing my paint has been an adventure. The hardest part is waiting for the paint to dry. Haha

The best part is having a swatch that exists in the light that I have in my studio. Some of the paints match the turn swatch exactly and others are slightly off.

This started out as a way to see the warms and cools if my colors easier but I’m learning so ouch more.

The background of this painting just revealed itself to me last night. I’m in between projects. This painting was purely for fun and now I love it more than just a fun project haha.

Let’s see where it goes lol.

Follow to see how it turns out.

A note on painting. I’ve always thought about painting it basically charcoal drawing with colors. In fact, the first time I’ve ever really figured out how to paint I literally made a painting that in my head was calling to charcoal drawing and now I’m kind of doing the same thing, but with multiple colors and multiple tones and multiple values and I love it.

The thing that I’ve added in recently is that I am adding in the need to do abstraction so every Marc is not necessarily a Mark that is meant to be a thing. It’s just a mark that describes a shape or describes form or adds the right tone of the color to the to the page and I kind of love it.

That’s it have a super day.

I paint some parts of the painting alla prima and other parts under painting. It doesn’t really come together till all of the elements have a bit of paint on the surface.

The skin is the under painted section. I went warmer in some parts. Now that I’m adding color elsewhere I can see that it’s already doing its job. I can’t wait to see what it will look like when I actually add color.

I cooled this side down, it was so warm it wasn’t going to vibe with the skin tones when they come in.

I’m kind of excited with how the ears are behaving now that there is a background in progress. Paintings really do have an ugly stage where things just aren’t quite right.

I know it’s not just me, but I take so many photos of the painting on a daily basis. I literally have photos with the lights on, then off, then from the side. I’ve got to see all of the aspects.

See what I mean, lol, here’s the one from the side before I changed the background LOL

One more from the side because you need to know, lol.

I’ve actually been really working hard on doing all the steps for paintings like step 12345. And it’s funny because it’s I think there’s a thing where it’s like. Yes, you know how to paint but also it’s not a painting problem. It’s a thinking problem and I think that getting through the thinking problem and getting through the creativity problem is the part that is more interesting to me sometimes when work is happening or paintings are happening in the studio

What I mean by getting through the creativity problem is that I have 1 million ideas. I used to think I would run out of ideas, but that’s literally never happened. Instead of having an idea problem it’s an editing problem. Yes, you could have many many ideas, but do you wanna work on all of them at the same time or do you wanna focus?

So that’s something I’ve actively been working on. It’s important to me that I have a process of distilling ideas, flushing them out, and getting them complete so that I can present them to whomever wants to see them.
