I started doing performances around confession in 2015. In 2016, I created the performance A Bear Witness with Luka Fisher, exploring the multifaceted reasons that draw individuals to strip clubs. I asked patrons to write their confessions on the back of fake dollar bills and “make it rain” with a snapshot from their inner world, combining their usual act of throwing dollars at me with an opportunity for a momentary liberation from secrets.

Some confessions are lighthearted and humorous, and others haunt me to this day. I’m grateful to those who were willing to share their darkest stories to help shed light on the human condition.

Read this piece and more in issue 4 out now. 🙏 Thrilled to be a part of issue 4

Witnessing so much loss and destruction has been brutal and heartbreaking to witness in so many ways. I am at a loss for words. The ways in which the various communities have come together has been one of the things that gives me some semblance of hope. I’m looking forward to being a part of artist relief fundraiser exhibition benefiting displaced artists in our community and the DENA fire relief fund. Sal Trevino ( ) and I collaborated on this sculpture for the fundraiser which were built and fired

I was the guest on the latest episode of the podcast Unraveling Adoption , an intentional space to delve into adoption’s complexities together. In this 40-minute program I share about the intersection between my performance art and my adoption . And I read the essay that was included in Lizzie Borden’s anthology Whorephobia. I am grateful to have this space to speak with Beth from a vulnerable place about my personal experiences. I do not speak for others on these topics.

The podcast’s host, Beth Syverson, is an adoptive mom to a 21yo son Joey. Together they want to help others open their eyes about adoption. We know this conversation will resonate with anyone impacted by adoption, and we want to help enlighten the general public too!

🌟 New Episode Alert: Unraveling Adoption 🌟

This week’s podcast episode features the incredible Kayla Tange (.tange), a Korean adoptee and a performance artist who has navigated the complexities of adoption, identity, and empowerment as a s*x worker. Here are three key takeaways that will deepen your understanding of adoption’s complexities:

The Search for Connection: Kayla discusses how her experiences as an adoptee have shaped her desire to connect with others. She reflects on the feelings of loneliness and displacement that often accompany adoption, and how her work as a performer allows her to forge meaningful connections with strangers.

September 2023
It was my fourth surgery in 10 months. I was 11 days post-op and still felt terrible. Many growths and stage 4 endometriosis were removed. The cancer had been cut from my breast ten months before. After a four-hour surgery, I was happy it seemed successful. For almost a week and a half, the medicine made me incredibly nauseous, and I had virtually no appetite aside from a few bites a day. Despite this, we did our usual documentation photoshoot. Because why not while we are still alive? Luka was the first person I invited and felt comfortable doing photos with when I wasn’t at my best. She meets me where I’m at, and for that, I am grateful. That kind of vulnerability is rare, and what’s even rarer is that Luka has an innate gift of seeing what I initially don’t. Even when I look at the photos, I don’t think I look as ill as I felt, and I like what we created during these times. It feels like a reminder that I lived through something challenging and still was able to find little joy in connecting to a friend who also recently had undergone painful surgery. We laughed about the sea of medicine bottles and bandaid pasties she suggested, which helped my spirits.
I am very excited to show these images that and I created to document this time and grateful for for including us with this amazing group of artists.
