Judgement is more powerful than democracy in the world we live in. A person is judged based on their appearance/sexual orientation/livelihood and there seems to be absolute freedom in interfering with the freedom of people who decide to lead their lives irrespective of the societal norms. 'FREAK!', 'LUNATIC', 'WEIRDO', 'ABNORMAL', etc., and the list goes on and on.

As I have always found myself being fascinated with the human eyes, ears, lips and nose, questions came into my mind while sketching, one fine day:

"What if the eye wasn't placed where we actually perceive it to be?"

"Are such kind of people called abnormal, deranged or mad?"

"What is normal, anyway?",

and voila!!!

As bitter as it seems,
as ghastly as their eyes are
that, yet, are confused,
but stare, as if intrigued-
some must wonder "Why?"
some ask "How?"
and the rest
deny their fruitful existence.

Literacy, knowledge
and their own nutshell
of wisdom,
has taught them
so well enough
and to inflict disgrace,
upon two souls
of the identical gender.

It is, as if,
the two lack colour
and their belongingness,
plated, vigorously, to the land
that sows seeds
of rejection and intolerance,
the soil that beholds
a delusional group, called society.

With every staunch hatred,
with every degrading judgement,
with every abysmal taunts,
the two feminine outcasts
were spectators,
their transcending colours
of their agonizing existence
into the society's jar of futility.

Yet,
every discreet conversation on shorter calls,
and an eternal memory
acknowledging each other's presence,
brought them further close
and they were salient observers, yet again,
to the vanishing, lifeless colours
of the ever-so-fragile societal cage.

Eyes
of various shapes and colours,
looming at every corner
of the mighty planet,
which perceived
from a greater distance,
is nothing but a bluish-green eyeball.

The blinking of an eye,
that beholds
a pre-determined capture,
of a moving image
like the shutter
of a larger spectator-
the infamous camera.

Yet,
it is inside
the gigantic brain,
that germinates our
thoughts, ideas and misconceptions,
based on the minute captures
of the human eye.

It is
what you perceive,
that I do too
and
yet it is
what you think
that I might not.

A shadow;
his tattered,
and grotesque self
that lingers inside
the four walls
of a room splashed
with
burnt colors
of the midnight sorrow,
visible only
as it passes
through the slightest
ray of light,
so narrow.
His shadow
once resided
and became
a part of
everything he touched,
he felt,
he observed,
he thought,
he brought,
yet
now, it is the color
of his shadow,
the aura of opacity
that surrounds him,
that has entangled
his channels of
the mind,
churning daylight
out of his eyes,
that had once
made him human,
but which has now
made him accept
that
it is he
he who is now
a part of the darkness
of his own shadow-
where he must
no longer recognise light,
where rigidity and stagnancy
is what makes
his existence right
and
he must reside
amidst the walls coloured
in black,
where obscurity
encircles his body
where he must breathe,
stay alive,
by absorbing
anything that shine's bright.

I wanted
to take a leap,
skipping the obstacles
of narrow, feudal minds, where
peace is only a thought,
not a desire to be achieved.
As I managed
to escape, somehow,
finding a way
through the shallow paths
of distorted ideologies,
I reached
an end
to the false-fed reality,
and lay foot on an abandoned lane
somehow occupied
by dreams and
unfulfilled aspirations,
appearing as
typical hollow structures,
made of bricks
and degraded cement,
upon which
falls the colours
of failure and hope
disguised in hues of blue and red.
I looked back
and saw
the textured palette
of reality
and maybe
for the first time
I embraced what I had
in front of me,
not what I was leaving behind-
darkness as an ally,
guiding me
through the endless lane
where I face my failures
and embrace my dreams,
I walk away
clasping onto
solitude and peace.

Is it okay to be lonely,
while the luminescence
of the solitary crescent
bounces off the window pane
and casts a shadow of tranquility on my face?
Is it healthy to be all by yourself,
while seated on the empty flight of steps
that can bring me closer
towards a mellow tune to my ears
played by the uninterrupted flow of the river?
Is it normal to feel a sense of comfort
in the last cigarette that I consumed every night
as the ashes find their own peace on the ground
and the exhaled smoke glides throwed the window
making me commend on its ability to escape?
Is it comforting to take a stroll
on the broken pavement, only to wonder
how similar you might be and how no one,
tries to mend you wounds,
the onlookers passing by with their judgements?
Is it amusing enough to take yourself out
and sit alone in a coffee shop
sipping onto that hot coffee, gone cold,
that witnessed your anxiety
trickle down your forehead,
with the body shivering as if it were kept on ice,
as you slowly learn to date a person of need,
as you slowly learn to accept your loneliness?
Maybe it is at such times,
loneliness hits you like a enormous sea wave
that it somehow partially drowns you in
and traps your mind
with the only thought of an escape
being a life-jacket, a saviour, a company,
that you find yourself, stuck in between
land and sea, stuck in between
an urge to love somebody and the need
to complete yourself.
Maybe it is just enough,
to be standing there
alone in an abandoned street
and amidst the crowd
where everyone demands a shoulder to cry on.
Maybe it has always been you:
the one who needs to fight out the battles,
the one who reaches out to peace for the soul,
the one who has sleepless nights and understands silence,
and one has made it so far,
don't give it away for finding solace
in the arms of another,
whereas you are perfect
for yourself, by yourself.

I carry you in my being.
I carry all in my being.
Every person I have known,
Every person I have met,
You and them,
I carry in my cage of bones,
Tucked neatly inside my skin.
So that no one ever knows,
That it's been long,
I have stopped being my own.
And have turned into a shelter of other selves,
Taking up their thoughts,
Snatching them off their homes,
Wearing them like my own.
I am a collage of borrowed identities,
A cocktail of rented choices,
And a diary of stolen stories.
Because there was a day,
When I was left alone,
In the dark,
Untended,
To live with nothing but my own ghost.
The day when I had met myself,
And I didn't like who I met.
When I had touched myself,
And I hated every inch I did.
When I had conversed with myself,
And I was scared of what I heard back.
So I wish I hadn't.
I wish I hadn't at all.
So now the only way I can be,
Is by stealing all, from all,
To become everything they are,
And everything I am not.

Pieces lying,
scattered across the mind
forming solutions that appear
as one of a kind.

Thoughts,
when they take shape,
the math although points
to a distant landscape.

Lost, I am,
in the idea of construction
a name that lingers in my head
broken into contours of obstruction.

Taking long walks,
spending time on call
yet it is the tragedy of her absence
shall, on my existence, befall.

I stitch the pieces
of tranquility, helpfulness and joy
that takes a shape similar to hers
yet it is her flaws that add color
parts that even my mind couldn't destroy.

I remember
to have soaked myself
into the red and blue dye
of dominance and isolation,
this camouflaged world demands.

The veil traps
my freedom of perceiving
the truest nature of the human
as the shawl covers the stains of control, I long to hide from the watchful mind.

But now,
standing on the doorstep
of misogyny and patriarchy,
I no longer fear to immerse myself
in the desires that make me an individual.

I wish,
to be placed in a room
where the walls resonate colors of escape,
as I sit still, in front of a mirror,
admiring my suppressed externalism
far away from the society's hands of filth.
