Oh hi! Just a little about me and how ceramics became my job.
At the age of 26 I was working in an office as a truck dispatcher.
I stared taking ceramics classes at Barnsdall Art Park in the evening with my mother in law.
I hadn’t touched clay since high school (I loved clay so much back then I took every ceramics class twice).
As soon as I started making stuff it was one of those TV moments where the character just KNOWS what to do.
But I didn’t really know how to it or how it would help me quit my day job.
Over the next 6 years I just kept making as many things as I possibly could, taking ceramic classes all over the city.
I eventually did quit my job and start my own line of ceramic homewares, but it didn’t happen overnight.

Seeing the structure of how something is put together is one of my favorite things. I don’t like when you can’t see how something is made, when it’s human-less. It’s wonderful to see how intentions run into material objects, imperfections are so beautiful. Crookedness, roughness unsymmetrical things, off-center things, off balance things. These are all my favorite things.

Glaze has been one of the most challenging things I’ve had to work on in the studio.

It has taken me years and years to think about and practice, test, experiment, guess again, mess up, guess again.

I didn’t really know anything about glaze when I started, and I didn’t even know what I wanted. I just knew when I liked something. I didn’t know how to achieve it. I’ve looked at tons of glaze recipe, books at other ceramics seen things that I liked and had no idea how to achieve the effect I’ve had to be realistic about what an electric kim can do and what I can do and when I have the patients to do, but right now I feel like I have a few really satisfying glazes that I’m quite proud of.

You know those antique stores that are so packed and stacked up with stuff that you can barely walk through, and you get stuck at a dead end, but it gives you time to look around and spot a treasure?
