Envy falls beneath Truth's hand.

Katharina Prestel's print, "Triumph of Truth over Envy" transforms the conceptual qualities of honesty and jealousy into figures taking part in a physical confrontation; Truth prepares to strike Envy as a tempest roars behind them.

Prestel expertly translates Jacopo Ligozzi's original allegorical drawing through an intricate printmaking process, comprised of several etching and aquatint plates, along with touches of golf leaf, meant to recreate depth, softness, and luminous highlights.

Lebanese by birth, French by marriage, and American by choice, artist Huguette Caland's life and work defied aesthetic, social, and sexual conventions of her time.

Her work shows the influence of her untraditional way of living and representing sexuality, and of the various places she lived in her life: Beirut, Paris, and Venice Beach, California.

Although her contemporaries in Venice included Larry Bell, John Baldessari, Billy Al Bengston, and others, Caland struggled to establish artistic standing.

It's time to throw her flowers! 💐💖 Opening on September 27, lose yourself in the intricate details and cavernous folds of skin in her work, and discover a woman subsumed in the form of art in "Huguette Caland: A Life in a Few Lines."

We are saddened to learn of the passing of journalist, feminist, social activist, and self-professed "hopeaholic" Gloria Steinem.

A pioneer, Steinem's name became inseparable form the modern women's equality movement. With indefatigable determination she encouraged us all to fight for equality, fairness, and justice.

She leaves behind a legacy that changed conversations around women's rights and influenced generations to come. Rest in peace.

Even at rest, there is a constant possibility of movement, captured through fabric and frame.

While some photographs may appear static, Shaniqwa Jarvis's "Slowly, Surely" lets the work breathe, featuring flowing, layered silk sheets with photography printed directly on them.

Her treatment gives the image an unexpected softness, cascading down from custom-made rods, capturing movement in the image and the medium.

This work was acquired during Frieze 2025 as a part of the Mohn Art Collective: Hammer Museum , Los Angeles County Museum of Art , and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles .

Jazz improv and theatrical storytelling converge in "Place is the Space," a multimedia, immersive performance happening at the UCLA Nimoy Theater this Saturday at 1PM. 🎭🎷✨

Inspired by Sun Ra’s philosophy and his film "Space Is the Place," artist Edgar Arceneaux & Frank Lawson lead a concert and an experiential ritual where the audience helps collectively shape the shape into place.

🪐In conjunction with "SPACE IS THE PLACE," now on view, this cosmic jam session culminates in the audience crowning a "New Sun Ra," who leads the full audience on a pilgrimage to the Hammer Museum for one final performance, where everyone is invited to play along.

One summer at the Hammer can start a career in the arts. 💫 Reflecting on their weeks at the Hammer, three Getty Marrow Undergraduate Interns shared what they learned:

Angel, who graduated from UCLA this spring with a B.S. in Anthropology, worked for the Academic Programs department. With deep reflection and dedication, she provided resources and lesson plans for LAUSD teachers, promoting access to art for underrepresented communities.

Sarah, who recently graduated from LMU with a B.A. in Art History and African American Studies, spent her summer managing digital assets for the Hammer Online Collections. She supported institutional workflows for processing digital assets and gained mentors in the process.

Curatorial intern Renata is about to enter her junior year at UC Berkeley. While here, her open and curious nature allowed her to discover possible future positions in museums.

Thank you three for a terrific summer! We look forward to seeing how you apply these skills in the future!

The simplicity of love. 💕

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's woodcut print "Liebesgarten (Garden of Love)" features numerous couples posed in embrace and set in a natural landscape.

An important figure in German Expressionism, Kirchner uses clean but deliberate lines to represent bare emotion, communal living and, perhaps, romance itself. The subtlety of the work promotes a calm, candid look at love and coupledom.

This bold composition, one of over two thousand prints Kirchner designed during his lifetime, illustrates Petrarch’s fourteenth-century poem, "Triumph of Love."

Jafa's experimental video collage, titled in reference to Joan Didion's essay collection, explores how Black Americans' labor, ideas, and cultural output have historically been appropriated by white culture.
