Spring is here. It’s time to put on gardening gloves and spend more time in the yard. Here is my attempt to capture the essence of gardening on a pot in the form of Warli Art. Warli art is a tribal art originating from the North Sahyadri Range of Maharashtra. These paintings use basic geometrical shapes to depict nature, tradition and celebration.
This one is for all my fellow gardeners🪴

The name Pattachitra has evolved from the word 'patta', meaning cloth, and 'chitra', meaning picture. It is traditionally practiced on cloth or palm leaves. This art form is believed to have originated as early as the 12th century and is one of the oldest living art forms. It originated in the state of Odisha, India and is used mostly as a way to paint stories of Lord Jagannath.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word PATTERN? My early introduction to pattern was through a regular household practice called Chita/ Jhoti or Alpana which involves painting on floors and walls with paints made from rice flour.It is still a household practice, thanks to the women who have kept it alive over the years. This post is dedicated to all those women.

Some Art forms can tell us stories about older times and open up a window to History. Often, such Art express a cultural identity by conveying shared community values. This Diwali, my art is an inspiration from one such form called Madhubani which originated in the Mithila region of India & Nepal. Its heritage goes back a minimum of 2500 years old.
