“The Golden Era” 2021
The Golden Era celebrates Blackness by paying homage to the Golden Era of Hip Hop in conjunction with the Black Power movement of the late 1960s/70s. Inspired by Barron Claiborne’s iconic photo (“K.O.N.Y.” - King of New York) of The Notorious B.I.G., The Golden Era uses photography, fashion, and design to draw parallels between Hip Hop, The Black Power Movement and Black Lives Matter.

I was very intentional when selecting ‘s look for “Pussy Power”. Artistic inspiration was drawn from the Romantism Era (one of my favorite artistic eras), comic book art and an array of female comic book characters. The color red was chosen for her fabric backdrop piece as well as makeup because it’s such a passionate, powerful color and also symbolizes the blood flow involved with giving birth.
I love to adorn my own hair with feathers and have always loved feathered accessories of any kind, so I decided it would be the perfect touch to her goddess appeal. Her makeup is an inspired mixture of warrior and gothic esthetic. All of these aspects came together wonderfully, not to mention, her leather bralette and panties, which added the perfect amount of rebel badass that I was going for!

“Pussy Power” 2021

In our society, the term “Pussy Power” is often used to describe a woman’s sexual allure and or ability to gain a certain status or material wealth. Those are indeed aspects of the controversial term. However, I feel that a woman’s choice to give life is often left out of the “Pussy Power” rhetoric. With this piece, I wanted to make the statement that giving birth is badass! It’s miraculous, powerful and warrior esque. And in my opinion, when a woman CHOSES to give birth, it is one of the most powerful acts of “Pussy Power”!

“My Sister’s Keeper” 2020
This was actually the first project and I did for . I felt that it was important to begin this artistic endeavor with what’s most important to me in my life, my family. These are my god sisters. Our mothers have been best friends since I was three years old and I’ve been doing their hair since they were babies. Growing up, my mom and god mom always supported my creativity and allowed me to express myself by doing my sisters’ hair. It really bonded us and helped mold my identity as a creator. So now that we are all adults, I wanted to pay homage to our tradition of sisterhood. There is nothing I love more on earth than my family and because they were the first to nurture my gifts and talents, I will always shed light on the fact that I wouldn’t be who I am without them. I am my sisters’ keeper.
