Enslaved Black Americans endured tough conditions during h**p production in the 18th & 19th centuries (Woods, 1996; Turner, 2013). This episode connects the past to present, shedding light on the growth of Black entrepreneurs in today's cannabis world. Together, let's learn, empower & strive for an equitable future! 💪🏾💚

As Black History Month comes to an end, let’s reflect on the inspiring legacy of Bridget ‘Biddy’ Mason. Biddy Mason was a Black American born into slavery in Georgia in 1818. Her story is one of resilience and determination as she overcame incredible obstacles to become one of the wealthiest Black women in 19th-century Los Angeles. In 1856, after winning her freedom, she built a successful business selling her herbal remedies and investing in real estate, eventually becoming one of the wealthiest landowners in downtown LA. Mason was known for her philanthropy, donating generously to the First African Methodist Episcopal Church, founding the first elementary school for Black children in Los Angeles, and providing support to those in need. Her inspiring legacy reminds us of the contributions of Black Americans to our nation's history and of the ongoing struggle for justice and equity. Let's honor Biddy Mason's memory by continuing to celebrate the resilience and contributions of Black Americans and fighting for a more just and equitable society.

🔥 Did you know that iconic LA architect Paul Revere Williams had to draw his designs upside-down due to racism? Despite facing countless obstacles, Williams designed over 2,000 buildings, including the Beverly Hills Hotel and the LAX Theme Building. Notably, he designed a building in Los Angeles for Golden State Mutual, once the largest black-owned insurance company west of the Mississippi and the sole Black American-owned corporation in California for many years.. 🙌

The Marion County Public Health Department closed Jordan's Fish-Chicken-Sandwiches restaurant (located at 4175 North Post Road in Indianapolis) “to protect public health and safety” on Monday, January 2, 2023, after a video showing how the restaurant handles its food went viral on social media this week.

As well as violating health codes, the conditions of handling food in that establishment were inhumane and just plain disrespectful. We at Black Business Series cannot emphasize enough the need for Black Americans to patronize and do GOOD business with one another, especially in the food industry.

We will present an episode on the food industry in Los Angeles in our upcoming documentary series, Black Business LA... highlighting the quality, care, and standards that Black restaurant owners have always demonstrated when handling food for their communities. This episode will be released in the near future, and we cannot wait for you to see it. Stay tuned!🙌🏿🙌🏿👏🏿👍🏿❤️

What is your why? Why do you do the things you do? Why did you choose business ownership? What is your why?

We at Black Business Series reflected on our why. Why are we so passionate and determined to bring to you this first-of-its-kind documentary series. Black business owners such as Whitney Beatty, CEO of Josephine and Billies is our WHY.

We do this because we believe in our people. We value our culture of innovation, ingenuity, creativity, intelligence, perseverance, resiliency, resourcefulness, and our fighting spirit. We want to do our part in uplifting and empowering our community's uniqueness and exceptionality.

We started filming at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic around February 2020, and our production has evolved immensely. We are a small, but mighty team, and we are excited to bring to you a documentary series that we hope will educate, enlighten, and inspire.
