🗓️Tonight, join us for the most exciting installation of Throwback Movie Night @ Tippitiwichit yet. We’ll be presenting the influential 1962 psychological horror classic 'CARNIVAL OF SOULS' on our 98 inch screen!
After miraculously surviving a car accident, Mary Henry moves to Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon arriving in the city, she feels drawn to an abandoned carnival nearby. Many townspeople warn her not to explore it, but continued visions lure her closer. What happens to Mary in the Carnival of Souls? Find out tonight at 6pm @ Tippitiwichit...
'CARNIVAL OF SOULS' was made on a shoestring budget of only $33,000 by Herk Harvey, in his only directorial feature. Harvey worked previously on industrial films; these were promotional and instructional films circulated throughout an industry. Harvey got the idea for the film after driving by a real abandoned pavilion in Salt Lake City. He then wrote the film with co-writer John Clifford. It's a loose adaptation of a French short film from 1961 called 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge', an adaptation of an 1890 short story with the same title.
'CARNIVAL' is renowned for its unnerving and dreamlike atmosphere, inspiring the likes of George Romero and David Lynch. The film draws heavy comparison to the Twilight Zone as well, which was at time of release a staple of television sets all around America. The film's legacy persists and continues to influence horror even now. We are VERY excited for this one.
