Great job by Violet Ray last night! They got right to it and finished all of the guitars and vocals, so all that is left is bass and mixing. Also, a huge thank you to Jeff Scarborough of Scarborough Amps for getting my 1972 Traynor YBA1 back in shape just in time for last night's recording session, as we used it for half of the guitar tracks. If anyone in the Cleveland area needs a great amp guy for repairs, mods, or boutique amps he is the man.

I'm excited about tomorrow's recording session with Cleveland's Violet Ray! Tracking drums tomorrow and the drummer's bass drum is 26" or something like that...hopefully we will get some great big sounds to lay the foundation for an excellent EP. Get ready boys, I will be knocking on your door at 9am! I'm ready NOW!

Thanks to everyone who is liking the page! Really, I am just doing this to promote www.31pumpkins.com, but I certainly appreciate the support. I will update everyone when I have a new blog post or something new on the website. While on the topic of the recording efforts, I am having the initial meeting with Violet Ray, a band from Cleveland tomorrow in the evening. They are going to be recording an EP that they hope to have FINISHED by mid December. I am going to try to accommodate them and give them a great rock album. Wish us all luck!
While I am "on the horn", so to speak, I should mention that I am getting ready for a couple of events soon and one that is farther along in Winter.... My band, Treading Bleu is going to be playing in Kalamazoo, Michigan on the 17th, but we are also coming back to Northeast Ohio in December. We will be playing in Kent, Ohio at The Stone Tavern (at Michel's) on the 15th of December and at the Wi******er (pretty big room with big sound) on the 16th of December. Those should be pretty great shows and we will have some giveaways for them.
On the longer term, I am kind of "nesting" for FAWM.org, or February Album Writing Month right now. The idea is to write, record, and post 14 original songs starting Feb. 1 through the 28 days of February. Pretty crazy, really, but amazing. In the past, I have even collaborated with people from New Zealand, England, Germany, Norway, and many places in the U.S. and Canada during that month. In fact, if you want to see what a song sounds like from that, you can go to my (previously mentioned) recording website and check out the song "C Wahine" in the audio samples page.

Now that the cold weather is upon us, it is time to get back into the studio and record some tracks! If you are anything like me, I tend to spend the warm weather writing songs and playing shows, rather than being inside holed up recording (unless I have a band to record). Now is the time when I start to get excited to get back in front of the microphones to record what I have been working on. Kind of like reading a great book--every time that I am not reading it I am still thinking about when I will be able to have the time to get back to reading. Writing and recording can be that way, too, as right now I cannot wait to have even a few minutes to plan, record, or mix.
The planning right now is for a band from Fairview Park. They are going to record a 6 song EP with me at their house in the next month and I am already obsessed with how I am going to get the sounds that I am envisioning in my head. There was a point today when I was texting one of the band members about my ideas for microphones and mic preamps on certain instruments and realized that I was being kind of a nut. I stopped texting after that, but am still thinking about the combinations that will produce the best sounds. Well, I guess that it is better to have someone recording you that is obsessed about the sounds--even though the recording doesn't even start for nearly a month....Haha.
