Here’s a fun project I worked on back on October in Linden, Texas. ”The Red Door” is the new hot spot in downtown and no, it’s not a bar, but a really interesting concept of shared, affordable office spaces designed to entrepreneurs of all kinds that are looking to settle into a location for their business. Thank you Steven, from the Andrews Real State team, for choosing me to spice up your building.

Thank you very much for this! And don’t miss Artwalk! There is much more!😀

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Meet Diego Baracaldo! Diego is a figurative artist born in Colombia and who has lived in Longview for about half of his life. His artwork is featured on the July 7 ArtWalk poster and Diego will be at Forbes & Butler, 104 W. Methvin St., during ArtWalk.

When creating artwork, Diego said he draws inspiration from nature, sculpture, cinematography, philosophy and contemporary illustration.

“Drawing is the foundation of my work and I have been able to translate it to multiple media and scale,” he said.

The horse featured in the July 7 ArtWalk poster is an acrylic painting Diego created that was auctioned and purchased during an Asbury House Child Enrichment Center event held in April at LMFA.

“The inspiration behind the image is the obsession I have for such majestic creatures,” Diego said. “What draws me to them is the dynamism and energy they emanate as well as the multiplicity of forms and gestures. I try to stay away from representing my subjects in a naturalistic way, so I play with color palettes, exaggerate forms, and let my ideals be reflected on the results.”

In addition to painting on canvas, Diego is also a muralist who has created two murals in downtown Longview. Arts!Longview commissioned Diego to paint “Color For Your Ears,” a beautiful mural on the wall of the Longview Symphony’s office on Methvin Street. In partnership with Zahck Israel, Diego also painted a mural on Center Street that pays tribute to Longview’s history.

Diego is currently working on a body of work that will be available during the July 7 ArtWalk at Forbes & Butler. To learn more about Diego and view more of his work, check out his page Diego Baracaldo Art.
