This happened to me this morning.
I stopped at Sonic this morning for my usual Dr. Pepper stop. As I pulled into the parking lot, I saw two cars off to the side. Outside of the cars were three people hugging. It appeared to be a mom, a dad and a daughter. The hug was so intense that at first, I wondered if something had happened—an accident, bad news—but there were no signs of that. What was clear was the love they shared. You could feel it in the way they held onto each other like they didn’t want to let go.
Eventually, the mom stepped back, wiping tears from her face, and so did the daughter. But before they left, they hugged again. Then, they got into their cars—mom and dad in one, daughter in the other—and drove off.
As I sat there, I couldn’t help but reflect: Were those tears of joy, sadness, or something bittersweet? I’ll never know, but honestly, the details don’t matter. What matters is the love you could see in that hug.
It made me think: When was the last time I hugged someone like that, so full of meaning it said what words couldn’t? Life gets so busy, and we get so caught up in the day-to-day that we don’t stop to express real, heartfelt emotions.
So, here’s my challenge for you (and me): Take a moment today to hug someone you love. Not for any reason other than to say, “I love you.” Because sometimes, the simplest gestures—a hug—mean more than we’ll ever know. ❤️
