We are soooooo close to having the new youth and high school lockers rooms done. The mezzanine area is being worked on as well.

I need to tell everyone who visits the Arena that there is still a lot of construction material, wet paint, wet grout, and other operations going on daily. Today there are eight different trades teams working to get the project completed. Those things being said, NO ONE is allowed in the construction area. Don’t ask for a tour, don’t go wandering if your team is using the player’s benches or scorer’s table, NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THAT AREA. Clear enough? I am a nice person. I will not be very nice if I find you giving yourself a self guided tour.

When the area is completed I will be more than happy to show you around and tell you about the project.

Have a great day!

The steel for the mezzanine has arrived! Until further notice the area behind the players benches remains closed for players, coaches and curiousity seekers. There will be construction workers here today so we can anticipate additional noises and some minor odors.

As construction continues players will be able to use the two former high school locker rooms on the bleacher side of the arena. Players and coaches are also welcome to use the first row of the bleachers.

As our renovation continues we are asking for your financial assistance. We are close to our goals but in order to finish the project the "right" way, we need your help. Unknown to many, we are a 501(c)(3) rink so we do not recieve any outside financial assistance. Our revenue is generated from the use of our ice and from tax deductable financial contributions. Every doller donated to the arena will go directly toward the renovation project.

When we were able to get our ice back in this last July, we were contacted by a production company that wanted to film a commercial here for a new sporting goods product. What we didn't understand was just how much of the day we'd be spending with TJ Oshie of the Washington Capitals!

Look for some familiar settings from here at the arena. The ice, locker rooms and Zamboni rooms can be recognized but, pay particular attention to the :06 mark of the commercial. Yep, that's Dean giving TJ a, "Hey what's up" fist bump!

Throughout the course of the day, TJ wore the No Sweat product and gave it a very positive review. Check out the product and ordering information below.

As we're about to start up "the hockey monster" I thought I'd take a moment of your time to remind you of a few things to help ensure you and your player are ready to get this thing going!

Don't assume that everything you need from your last time on the ice is still in your bag. There's nothing worse than getting to the arena only to discover that you're missing a piece or pieces of equipment.

Does everything still fit? These young people grow quickly and items that fit last Spring might not fit now. This includes mouth guards.

If your player got taller there's a good chance she or he may need a new stick or perhaps an extension plug will do.

And now, what we can help you with here at the Orono Ice Arena is this...
We can sharpen your skates. If at any time and this includes throughout the season that you need to have your skates sharpened, drop them off with us today and we'll have them done for you whenever you have your next practice or game here. And yes, we do sell mouth guards, tape and water bottles here.

So good luck to all wherever you play! Play hard and most of all, HAVE FUN!!! We look forward to your next visit here so you can see the progress on our arena renovation!

Hope to see you soon!
Dean

For twenty years the Orono Ice Arena's Olympic sized ice sheet has been the home of many memories. During that time in the effort of making the Orono high school and youth teams more competitive, many have tried but none have succeeded until yesterday in reducing the size of the rink to the more common NHL dimensions.

The lead photo in this post is the first intrusion into the underlying cement pad as work has begun to what we like to call, "shrinking the rink". The rink length will remain the same at 200 feet long. The significant change is the width of the rink which will be reduced from 100 feet down to 85 feet.

With a lot of hard work, the rink ice was removed last Thursday. On Friday we cleaned the arena knowing that this week we'd see contractors of various trades embark upon the arena. Yesterday morning started out with workers from Rink-Tec locating the cooling tubes which are embedded in the cement. Later in the day the arena floor concrete was cut from end to end. Concrete cutting will continue today and tomorrow. Removal of the 3000 square feet of concrete and the no longer needed refrigerant tubing will begin next week.

Stay tuned for more updates as our project continues.

Developemental skating has arrived at the Orono Ice Arena! We are actively seeking skaters who are hoping to work on their skating skills in a controlled environment. Pictured here is one of our Orono figure skaters who has been coming in before school to work on her figure skating skills.

Skaters are welcomed to bring personnal coaches in if they'd like. Skaters pay $10 to particpate, coaches pay nothing to be on the ice. This is a skating only opportunity. There are no hockey sticks or pucks allowed on the ice at any time and this is not Open Skating. This is new for us so please expect programming adjustments to be made.

We will make time to have these sessions starting next week after school so please spread the word! Feel free to contact the arena for more information.

If you are a part of a group that needs volunteer hours or, just want to come in to have fun and volunteer your time we'd love to hear from you. Please keep in mind that the Stand is small and we only need 3 or 4 people to volunteer from 7pm to approximately 9pm on Tuesday and Thursday's throughout January and one evening in early February.

It was Standing Room Only last night at our I ❤️️ Hockey event between the Orono Boys High School team and Delano. The Orono boys played hard against the #2 rated Delano-Rockford team but in the end fell short with a final score of 3-2. The Spartans came close to pushing the game into overtime as Revis Stephenson hit the post with under two minutes to play in regulation.
