Long Beach Camerata Singers celebrates its 61st Season this year with our 2026-2027 Season Announcement!

As we look toward the season ahead, our commitment to meaningful experiences and exceptional choral performances remains at the heart of what we do. We'll open the season with Schubert's Mass in G and welcome back two beloved holiday traditions: Catalyst Candlelight Christmas and Handel's Messiah, which sold out last year!

Camerata will also explore music that utilizes existing choral pre-text as a foundation for new musical expression with the works of Maurice Duruflé, Jake Runestad and Eric Whitacre. These works reflect on change in our modern western world, from scientific advancements and social issues to the many facets of the human experience.

From beginning to end, we'll celebrate our community. That's why our season graphics feature the iconic scenes and landmarks of Long Beach we know and love!

Be an early bird to Long Beach Camerata Singers' 2026-2027 Season and get the worm (RESERVED PARKING and discounts!)

For the first time in Camerata's history, we are offering reserved parking spaces for those who purchase our Masterwork VIP Special. Spots are limited, so guarantee a seamless concert experience with a parking pass to witness the power of over 80 voices live at Camerata's big three performances this season: Schubert Mass in G, Handel's Messiah and Duruflé Requiem! Reserved parking spaces are limited to one per household, and will be emailed in advance for the patron to print and display in their windshield.

Our Holiday Special, which features a ticket to both Handel's Messiah and Catalyst Candlelight Christmas, offers a $15 or $10 discount, depending on your choice of VIP or General admission respectively. When purchasing, choose one of three Catalyst Candlelight Christmas concerts to attend in either Santa Monica, Palos Verdes or Long Beach.

These are Camerata's most popular shows of the season and are beloved by the city of Long Beach, with Handel's Messiah celebrating its 18th year of continuous annual performance this year. (plus, it sold out last year!)

Still thinking about auditioning? There’s still time to join as a volunteer singer for Long Beach Camerata Singer's for the 2026–2027 season!

Currently led by Grammy Award-winning conductor and Artistic Director James K. Bass, Camerata has served as Long Beach's professional choral organization for over 60 years. Join us for a season of incredible choral orchestral masterworks, contemporary works and beloved annual traditions!

Auditions will be held on September 1, 2026 from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. at American Gold Star Manor.
We ask that interested applicants prepare one audition piece, with an aria, art song or folk song preferred. Singers will be asked to sight-read, and a pianist will be provided.

The big question!

Though he is known today for his status as a Grammy Award-winning conductor and the Artistic Director of Long Beach Camerata Singers, Dr. James K. Bass was introduced to music almost by chance.

Growing up in Florida, a fifth-grade Bass attended a school music assembly introducing children to orchestral instruments. During a demonstration, he saw a blue violin and thought, "I want to do that."

From that moment on, Bass began to play the violin, eventually switching to the double bass. His musical talents were soon recognized, leading Bass to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy, a journey that would lead him to choral music and the history we know today.
